Edible Plants
More and more home gardening is becoming very common for many individuals inclusive of myself. Whether they see it as a pastime, an hobby or to cut cost, no matter what it is, planting edible herbs or plants can be very economical and beneficially to your health in a medicinal way.
One of the greatest benefits ever is to reap fresh edible herbs and plants from your own garden. What a grand feeling when this is done. I speak of my own experience. Just sheer pride for me and family because I love to share when I reap. If you consider yourself a novice in planting a garden, there are lots of information online in regards to home gardening.
Many people like to plant flowers because they are attracted by their beauty and a flowers garden will brighten up a dull yard at any time. Roses may be the flowers that come to mind or it could be any other perennial and annual flowers but some people love their flowers garden.
Edible herbs and plants however, are my specialty and I am sure many will agree with me. Just the thought of eating your own fresh plants and not walking in the market to purchase them give you a feeling of pride and achievement. Trust me on this one. Some of these plants are also medicinal herbs that may be used to treat various ailments and they may be used as home remedies.
If you are out on excursion or camping and feel the need to eat if you are scarce on food or lost your food, you have to be entirely sure that the plants are safe. If you are not sure they are edible, do not consume them. The most important thing is that you stay hydrated because a person can live for many weeks without food due to hydration. It is very important to learn of plants that are edible before venturing into the wilderness.
Also, be reminded that while some parts of plants may not be harmful if consume, other parts might not be safe. Some parts of the very same plants may not be edible. The leaves may be edible while the flowers and roots may not. Therefore, knowledge of these plants are very important.
The amount of edible herbs that any gardener can plant is mind-boggling. There are so many, I can only concentrate on a few. Some of the most popular plants that are edible are potatoes, peas, corn, carrots, cabbage, squash, and cucumber in the vegetable section.
In the fruit section there are watermelons, tomatoes, peaches, plums, apples, pears, and apricots, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. In the herbal section, you can consider medicinal herbs such as thyme, basil, callaloo, chives, dill, parsley, oregano as well as cilantro. These are very good choices and some are used as herbal medicine.
Always be reminded that your plants which are consumable and growing in your garden need maintenance. They need to be watered, placed in a very good location and looking out for insects as well as diseases. Happy planting to all but be reminded that maintenance is very important so that you can enjoy eating your own healthy and edible plants.
