Horny goat weed medicinal herb can prevent infection in the body

Horny goat weed (Epimedium grandiflorum) medicinal herb is native to China as well as Korea. It can also be found in Asia and parts of Europe.  Used in traditional Chinese medicine,  horny goat plants can be found in the forests of these countries and can be describe as herbal plants from the epimedium species which contain aphrodisiac properties.

It is an annual herbaceous medicinal herb with bright beautiful flowers varying from red to yellow and darkened leaves in the summer.  It is from the berberidaceae family.

Goat weed includes compounds such as icariin which acts as a PDE5 inhibitor (phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor), phytoestrogens and flavonoids. You-Ping, the chemist and co-writer of The Chinese Materia Medica reported that five percent of Epimedium users were cured from bronchitis.

This results came about due to the polysaccharides as well as antiviral and antimicrobial compounds found in horny goat plant. Researches are still being done to determine other medicinal benefits of this medicinal herb.

The common names are Yin Yang Huo, Barrenwort, Inyokaku, Rowdy lamb herb, Bishop's hat, Fairy wings, Randy beef grass, Epimedium acuminatum, Epimedium grandiflorum, Japanese Epimedium, Goat wort, Long spur epimedium as well as Xian ling pi. 

The medicinal properties are sedative, immunity booster, antiviral and antimicrobial.

According to ancient Chinese folk lore, it inherited its name from a goat herdsman. The herdsman saw one of his goats going on a horny frenzy after eating epimedium. 

Some people just simply refer to it as goat weed.  In some countries, especially Japan, goat weed is grown in herbal gardens
