Every country, I believe has a national dish, which is a joy and pride of that country. A national dish can be a meal or perhaps a snack that is native to that country. Jamaica's national dish is ackee and saltfish (codfish). We love this meal and it may be eaten with whatever food you so desire, especially with roast breadfruit.


I was very pleased to see that our national dish ranked second in the top ten national dishes in the world by National Geography in their book, entitled, "Food Journeys of a Lifetime." This is great news for a small country as ours and I am proud that representatives of National Geography saw it fit to pay such homage to our ideal dish.

Ackee is also our national fruit and the ackee leaves may be used as herbal medicine for various ailments.
