Medicinal uses of herbs has been in existence since the beginning of times. It is older than Western treatments in the form of antibiotics as well as surgeries. Herbal Medicine along with Ayurveda which is the traditional medicine of India, have been in existence for more than 5,000 years.


Essential oils extracted from herbs were used in what we now called aromatherapy by ancient Egyptians. Various herbs such as myrrh and frankincense as well as garlic, inclusive of other herbs, were mentioned in the Bible. These are a just a few evidences that medicinal uses of herbs were practiced ages ago.

Currently, for many of us who want to use herbs to treat our sicknesses and diseases to remain in good health, herbal remedies seem to be a wise choice because of its benefits. Many people are indeed using herbs today.

There are herbs like ginseng that is good for mental health, lemon balm tea for relaxation and relieving stress and garlic can treat high blood pressure and cancer. Instead of antibiotics, medicinal herbs can be used to treat infectious diseases such as colds and flu. They can treat bacterial and viral infections.

Medicinal uses of herbs will never die but instead, will increase by those using it as prevention, treatment and home remedies. It is recorded that in 1993, the sales of herbal remedies were estimated to be about a whopping 1.5 billion dollars.
